Types of Pottery Glazes — Spinning Pots

What is Pottery Glaze?

  1. Opalescence- It reflects the lustrous light on the glazed finish of the pot.
  2. Bentonite- It holds all the components into suspension, while they are under the firing process.
  3. Opacifiers- They give an opaque or white background to the glaze. Bone ash and tin oxide are two different and widely used Opacifiers.
  4. Suspenders- It helps to stick the heavy components of the glaze from coming off after the firing process is over.
  5. Gums- They help to add toughness to the glaze and aids in protecting the finish before it is fired at very high temperatures.
